7/07/2010 Local band The Short List to open for INXS at the Sucrogen Townsville 400

Townsville band The Short List has won the opportunity of a lifetime to support one of Australia’s greatest ever rock bands, INXS, at this year’s Sucrogen Townsville 400.

Bands from Mackay to Cairns submitted demo tracks through radio station Hot FM for the chance to play on the big stage at the Saturday night concert before INXS.

The Short List was lucky enough to make the ‘short list’ and was chosen by the INXS band members to warm up the crowd.

The four Townsville musicians, who formed the band in 2007, actually hired a security guard to deliver their demo track to the Hot FM studio in Townsville.

Lead singer of The Short List, Daniel Chigwidden said: “To support INXS is such a massive opportunity. They are a legendary band, we are all definitely excited to meet them and have the chance to perform before them.

“Rock bands like INXS always draw massive crowds and it will be a great opportunity for us to play in such a huge concert in front of so many people.

“When you see the V8 Supercar events down south you always see the big name acts, so it is quite humbling to be chosen to perform at one of their events.”

The Short List is a pop/rock band consisting of: Daniel Chigwidden (guitar/vocals), Matthew McLean (guitar/vocals), Adam Krenske (drums) and Jason Lynch (bass guitar).

Sucrogen Townsville 400 Event Manager Kim Faithful said: “The Saturday night concert will be one of the highlights of the event, which combines the best racing in the world with the best entertainment. INXS are one of Australia’s greatest ever music exports and to have them play here in North Queensland is a huge bonus.

“The opportunity to support INXS is a big coup for the local band The Short List and we are sure they will do Townsville proud.”

The Sucrogen Townsville 400 will be the first big gig in Australia since 2007 for INXS and they will be joined by front man JD Fortune.

The concert is free to anyone who holds a Saturday ticket to the event.

Tickets are now on sale for an additional grandstand section that has been built in pit straight to meet demand from North Queensland residents wanting to be part of the biggest annual event in the region.

V8 Supercars is also giving people who have purchased a three-day general admission ticket, the opportunity to upgrade to a grandstand seat for just $88.

Get your tickets at www.ticketek.com.au or by calling 132 849.

Kids 12 and under can get free entry to the event with a special V.I.K. (Very Important Kid) Pass. Simply cut out the coupon from the Townsville Bulletin which appears every day this week and take it to a Ticketek outlet (Townsville Civic Theatre, Riverway) and exchange it for a free ticket.
