3/06/2010 Off-track action switches to two wheels at the Sucrogen Townsville 400

Showtime FMX Stunt Riders will perform at the Sucrogen Townsville 400

The Sucrogen Townsville 400 in July will feature exhilarating entertainment of the four-wheel and two-wheel kind, with the announcement today that the Showtime FMX Freestyle Motocross Team will be a signature part of the off-track program.

Some of the best motorbike stuntmen in the country will thrill the crowds with their choreographed stunts and freestyle ramp jumps as part of North Queensland’s biggest event from July 9-11.

The freestyle motocross is one of dozens of off-track events that feature in the program including driver autograph sessions, the L&H Family Zone, XXXX GOLD Retreat and Merchandise Alley.

International rock legends INXS will headline the Saturday after-race concert.

Sucrogen Townsville 400 Event Manager Kim Faithfull said the motocross team provided a new dimension to the off-track entertainment schedule.

“We are delighted to be bringing ShowTime FMX to Townsville as an additional off-track entertainment feature that complements our on-track schedule,” Mr Faithfull said.

“Freestyle motocross is a very popular spectator sport and we will have two 30-minute shows on each day of the event.

“These riders are among the best in the country and are sure to impress with their stunts on the ground and in the air.”

The ShowTime FMX Freestyle Moto X Team has cemented its position as the most spectacular main arena act in the country with choreographed stunts, pyrotechnic effects and freestyle ramp jumps.

The team was formed in 2000 and has since gone on to become the most experienced freestyle motocross team in Australia.

Showtime FMX Director Gary Reid said: “We have performed at other V8 Supercar Events throughout Australia and have always had a fantastic reception from the crowds.

“This will be the first time we have appeared in North Queensland and we can’t wait to wow the region with our range of exciting stunts and jumps.”

The ShowTime FMX shows will be located in the Hot Zone area of the event precinct.
Excitement is building for the region’s biggest event, with tomorrow marking five weeks to go.

The first signs of temporary event infrastructure recently appeared at the V8 Supercar track and the first of thousands of grandstand seats are now in place.

Kids 12 and under can get free entry to the Sucrogen Townsville 400 with a special V.I.K. (Very Important Kid) Pass.

Simply cut out the coupon from the Townsville Bulletin which appears every Tuesday and take it to a Ticketek outlet (Townsville Civic Theatre, Riverway) and exchange it for a free ticket.

Townsville’s inaugural V8 Supercar event last year was a massive success and smashed expectations with a crowd of more than 168,000 people over the three days.

Tickets are on sale now and are available through www.ticketek.com.au or 132 849.

A range of accommodation is still available in Townsville for the event, however bookings are filling fast.

The official Townsville Home Stay Program is in place to help meet demand and all accommodation inquiries should be directed to Barrier Reef Dive Cruise and Travel on 4772 5800.
