7/05/2010 INXS and JD Fortune to Rock Sucrogen Townsville 400

NORTH Queensland will get to experience the unique sound of INXS fronted by lead singer JD Fortune in just two months’ time when the super group rocks the Sucrogen Townsville 400.

INXS have proven they are as popular as ever following the release of their new album, INXS: Platinum – Greatest Hits, which within hours of release shot to No.1 on the iTunes charts.

V8 Supercars Australia is bringing INXS to North Queensland to play a one-off concert on Saturday, July 10 as part of the Sucrogen Townsville 400.

INXS recently announced JD Fortune will again join the band on-stage in Townsville, in what will be their first big gig in Australia since 2007.

The band surprised everyone by releasing the brand new greatest hits set called, Platinum - Greatest Hits and making it exclusively available through iTunes Australia. What makes the album so special is not just the 16 classic hits on the set, but the bonus 26 live recordings spanning INXS's entire concert archive featuring original singer Michael Hutchence.

Incredibly, the band have made this 42 song PLATINUM collection available for only $16.99.

The digital album comes with its own unique artwork including liner notes from Andrew Farriss, plus a sexy cover with French performing artist, Lulu.

V8 Supercars Australia Chief Operating Officer Shane Howard said he expected the new album release would spark heightened interest in the band’s one-off concert at the Sucrogen Townsville 400.

“INXS are one of Australia’s greatest ever bands who are renowned world-wide for their incredible live performances,” Mr Howard said.

“The fact their new album release went to number one on the iTunes chart shows their remarkable popularity and we are lucky to have secured them to play at the Sucrogen Townsville 400.

“The Saturday night concert, included in the event ticket price, will no doubt be a highlight of the event and we expect to draw fans from around Australia and internationally.

“North Queensland is in for a real treat.”

For three days in July, Townsville will be transformed into a celebration of V8 Supercar fever as world-class rock meets world-class racing.

Townsville’s inaugural V8 Supercar event last year was a massive success and smashed expectations with a crowd of more than 168,000 people over the three days.

Tickets are on sale now and are available through www.ticketek.com.au or 132 849. Children 12 years and under will again receive free entry to general admission areas with a paying adult.

The official Townsville Home Stay Program is again in place to meet demand for accommodation. Inquiries should be directed to Barrier Reef Dive Cruise and Travel on 4772 5800.
