the short list BIOGRAPHY

The Short List Bio (by Jade Kennedy)

The Short List recipe for success is simple: take four guys, mix them with a hint of punk, a dash of pop and some hot indie spice, add a sprinkling of killer lyrics and a liberal pinch o catchy tunes for extra flavour and serve fresh.

The Short List hasn’t been on the table too long, but has been serving audiences with killer shows in support of Eskimo Joe, Trial Kennedy, Little Red, and The Butterfly Effect.

They have also joined the buffet of the festival circuit this year, playing Easterfest alongside Ivoryline, Hawk Nelson and As I Lay Dying before wowing their hometown crowd at Townsville’s Groovin the Moo, sharing the stage with the likes of Kisschasy, British India, Tegan & Sara, Lisa Mitchell, Grinspoon, Miami Horror, Vampire Weekend and Silverchair.

What makes The Short List’s sound so enticing is their diversity of musical flavour. Bass player Jason grew up playing drums in High School hardcore and metal bands, Matt playing and writing in various Indie bands, while vocalist Daniel and drummer Adam grew up singing and playing in church!

“Everyone in the band has their different styles that really get them going. I think that is definitely reflected in our music. It also makes the songs we’ve written sound far more interesting than when belting it out acoustically at home” says lead vocalist Daniel. With this musical infusion they have created a pop sound that is original while still maintaining an appeal to the mainstream audience.

Steadily growing legions of fans have been dining out on the band's tasty originals since 2008. Taking their essence from Jimmy Eat World, Motion City Soundtrack, The Smashing Pumpkins and Muse, it’s easy to see how The Short List has so quickly become the flavour of the day.
Their eponymously titled debut EP was recorded and produced by Mark Myers from The Middle East / Sleeping in Trains. It features the delectable morsels ‘Said and Done’ and ‘You Get Me’, is the perfect entrée to what The Short List have to offer.

The Short List 2010 edition (Chigwidden, along with the current lineup of lead guitarist/keyboardist Matt MacLean, bassist Jason Lynch and drummer Adam Krenske) are currently cooking up their next concoction, to be recorded at Sydney’s Freefall Studios in May.
